Call Triple Zero to report a fire

Media Release

Ipswich Group Rural Fire Brigade

Rural Fire Expo Youth Week

All local Brigades have been busy attending to the fires at Ripley Valley over the past few days therefore it is fresh in people’s minds that the Fire Season will be upon us and what can we do for preventative maintenance around our homes in the rural and urban community. Availability of water will be a deciding factor in many fires. Your assistance to advise your local Fire Brigade if you have water that can be used in an emergency would be of great assistance. Come along and talk with Brigade representatives on Saturday at the Youth Week Rural Fire Expo, at the Rosewood Showgrounds.

For those Youth interested in finding out what Rural Fire Fighting is all about they should venture along to the Rural Fire Expo Youth Week on Saturday 21st April 2007 at Rosewood Showgrounds and talk with fire fighters, have a look at fire fighting equipment and find out where your closest brigade is.

Different types of fire fighting appliances will be on display.

The Fire Kitchen Demonstration Unit from the Fire Awareness Committee will provide visual displays. Different types of vibrating and strobe smoke alarms, for those people with hearing and visual problems, will be on display.

Handouts on Smoke Alarms and Escape Plans as well as Bushfire Preparedness will be available. Static displays will also be under the big marquee.

Blazer Bear will make an appearance for the youngsters along with face painting.  Have a look behind the scenes of an Incident Management Team or watch the skills and drills of the fire fighters on the centre ring.

The Rosewood Lions club will be providing catering for the day and will also make a presentation to the winners of their regional Lions International Fire Safety Poster Competition for Grade Four Students.

Mr Wayne Wendt MP, representing the Minister of Emergency Services, Pat Purcell, will officially launch the Expo and Councillor Paul Pisasale will speak on behalf of the Youth Week Grant which Ipswich Group Rural Fire Brigade received from Ipswich City Council to try and attract new Youth members between the age of 16 and 25.

The Commissioner Queensland Fire & Rescue Service Lee Johnson AFSM will also be in attendance as well as many of the Councillors from Ipswich City Council and other invited guests.

The Ipswich RSL Youth Band will play interlude music leading up to the Official opening and then have another bracket later in the morning.

The Expo is about Youth and how they can be a valuable asset to any organization.

Ipswich Group Rural Fire Brigade will launch their web site
http://www.ipswichgrouprfb.org.au which will have Community information on fire prevention and preparedness as well as Brigade information on training and meeting dates.

Official Opening is from 10.00am to 10.35am
