About Mt Forbes

Our Brigade Classification is CLASS 2.

We are members of the Ipswich Group of Rural Fire Brigades

Equipment Details of Brigade

We have three vehicles

Light attack unit which is a Nissan Patrol 4 Wheel Drive Cab (Unit 41) fitted with a 600 litre tank and BFFF foam injection

Medium attack Unit which is a Mitsubishi Canter 4 Wheel Drive Cab (Unit 51) fitted with a 1500 litre tank and BFFF foam injection.

Tanker Unit which is an Isuzu 500 Truck (Unit 71). This tanker has a water carrying capacity of 4800 litres. This replaces our old International 4 Wheel Drive Acco Truck which has now been decommissioned and sold but the new owners are still using this vehicle. For an old girl (built in 1969) she is still doing well!
This unit is mainly a supply unit but it has the facility to supply directly to any urban units and also has the facility to draw water from water mains, dams etc. and also has the standard fire fighting capabilities.

Communications

The type of communication available from our Unit 41 is VHF channel 15 and UHF channel 35. These capabilities are in Unit 41 and Unit 61. At present VHF only in Unit 51.

The other type of communication available from our Unit 51 vehicle is a mobile telephone, CDMA Network 0428 897 522, and radio contact to our base station as mentioned above.

All units carry hand held CB radios on channel 15 to enable our members to contact each other while outside the vehicles.

Brigade's Terrain and Area

The Brigade covers the areas of Willowbank, Ebenezer and parts of Walloon. The area from the Bremer River to the west Warrill Creek to the east, Ipswich Toowoomba Railway line to the north and Geobels Road to the south.  This is an area of about 156 square kilometers.

The Brigade is fortunate in that our area does not include any heavily forested areas. We have open country and some heavily timbered areas. The open country can have a fairly heavy grass cover in a good season. Our area is mostly flat with a few gentle hills.

We have two coal mines in our area as well as a Service Station, a small neighbourhood shopping centre, an explosive manufacturing plant incorporated in one of the mine sites, two explosive storage compounds and a fertilizer manufacturing plant.

We also service the Ipswich Motorsport Precinct and our area also adjoins the RAAF Base at Amberley.

Our emblem

Our Brigade emblem is a green lion. We are able use this symbol by courtesy of Mr Ron Leo of Leo and Green who are the original registered owners of the Green Lion. This emblem is on all of our vehicles.

Our first vehicle, Unit 51, was purchased with a donation by Leo and Green and this enabled the Mount Forbes Rural Fire Brigade to have a faster response to any call outs and also provided us with better off road capability.
